Creative Jewish Mom has this simple tutorial on creating your own very funky, very colourful glasses using glitter glue and glass paint. They’re great for adding a bit of colour to your home, but would be absolutely perfect for weddings or other celebrations once painted to match the colour scheme. I have about 28 of these tealight holders from Ikea left over from our wedding (five years ago, yes, I am a hoarder!) that would be far more likely to [...]

Stephanie Lynn from Under The Table And Dreaming has a guest post on Brown Paper Packages detailing how to make VERY cute bowls from crocheted doilys, I’ve seen these done with starch before, but never with white glue (PVA/school glue) and I think they look awesome, a really cute way to store those little bits and pieces that you need on your desk. My local Salvos has a box that is constantly being topped up with new doilys, generally priced [...]

We’re preparing to go on a car trip to Sydney in a few weeks for my husbands family’s annual picnic. Driving half way across the state with two kids who don’t deal with travelling AT ALL isn’t on the top of my list of fun things to do, so we always travel super prepared with everything we could possibly need to keep us all amused, and clean up the inevitable buckets of barf that come during any car trip that [...]

Stella from The Lovely Residence posted a tutorial to make a funky modern star decoration that would be perfect for Christmas (too soon to start thinking about Christmas?), and a nice change from using a wreath – just make sure you put it undercover so it doesn’t get wet! All it takes in six pieces of scrapbooking paper and some cuts in just the right spots. See the full tutorial here.

Allison of Cluck Cluck Sew has a new tutorial up, a huge flower cushion, perfect for adding some colour into your home as we come into spring! Best of all,the cushion is definitely deceptive in its simplicity, what looks like it took hours only took Allison half an hour and about $10 in fabric – bargain! See the full tutorial here. See more cushions on CraftBlog here.

Ed’s Note: Please welcome Charm to CraftBlog, our Victorian crafter extraordinare, this post will hopefully be the first of many here! When I was a kid my grandma would always have a box of yarn and a bag of needles sitting beside the sofa so it was only natural that I (being a very inquisitive child) would want to learn to knit! She spent hours showing me how to cast on, knit/purl, drop stitches (well maybe I learnt that one [...]

Ahh, more adventures in felting/fulling on CraftBlog! Previously I wrote about how to hand felt your projects, now I’ll speak about the far less manual version of just chucking it in the washing machine aka “time to ignore everything the laundry label tells you to do”! Machine felting works great for larger pieces, you lose the control that you have with hand felting, but it also allows you to sit down and have a cup of tea whilst your washing [...]

I woke up inspired this morning, and so decided to share it with the world, so here’s my tutorial for turning an old t-shirt into an awesome bag, in this case it’s toddler sized for my son, but size wise you’re only limited by the size of your t-shirt. You will need: one kick arse retro t-shirt Some cording, or something to make the straps out of – I just used yarn braided to make it stronger. A toddler willing [...]

Felting (or “fulling” as it’s correctly known) is the process of using heat, agitation and water to break down the fibres in your yarn so they bind together to create a solid fabric where the stitches are no longer obvious. It’s a great way to add some extra interest to a project. Felting can be done either by hand or by washing machine (post on that to come in the next couple of weeks), although it’s more time consuming by [...]

This week’s tut is fairly simplistic, I have the headache to end all headaches so I haven’t been able to put as much time into it as I would normally, as far as I’m aware I haven’t missed any massive steps, but let me know if there’s something that I’ve let slip As mentioned previously I’ve been working on my craft room in my spare time, I’ve been meaning to make an inspiration board for ages, but I’ve been waiting [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
