With spring on the way the RSPCA is starting to become overwhelmed with baby possums that have lost their mothers, these orphans still need a place to sleep and chill out, and so they’re calling for volunteers to knit or crochet “Possum Pouches” to keep them warm, stimulate them and offer some home comforts. The pattern (posted below) is easy enough for a beginner. One thing to remember is to use natural fibres rather than acrylic to make these up, [...]

Part three of Bunny Week – like Shark Week, but with lower production values and less teeth! I’m now totally inspired to have a Craft Blog Shark Week, I wonder if I could find enough shark themed crafts to do it…hmmm. Today we’re focusing on the crocheted rabbits, perfect for slipping into Easter baskets or hiding around your house, ready to pounce on an unsuspecting visitor like the rabbit of Caerbannog. Roly Poly Rabbits from Suncatcher Crafts – Remember Weebles? [...]

Amigurumi is a Japanese inspired form of crochet, worked in spirals it allows you to create projects in no time flat without worrying about joining rounds and because most of the projects are small it’s a great way to stashbust half skeins left over from other projects. Learning to Crochet With the magic of the internet you will never again be stuck looking at line drawings trying to work out exactly where your fingers are meant to be. Bethintx1 on [...]

Recently I’ve been working from “Mr Funky’s Super Crochet Wonderful” by Narumi Ogawa. I love Amigurumi and Japanese crochet patterns in general, and this little guy begged me to be made when I flicked through the book. Pattern: Mr Funky’s Pretty Little Kitty from Super Crochet Wonderful, the pattern is also available at Narumi Ogawa’s Etsy shop, although I feel that I should say that I find it very odd that she’s selling the “Spunky Funky Monkey” and “Pretty Little [...]

Crochet on tea towels is (in my opinion) a very Aussie tradition, my mum thinks it’s hilarious that I’ve resorted to crocheting on tea towels and insists that this alone should be enough for Mr Rudd to grant me citizenship. I’m not quite convinced on this one, but I do love that something so simple can make an otherwise cheapy pair of teatowels look so much cuter. If you’re experienced at crochet this is a very quick project to throw [...]

Melbourne seems like the place to be for crafty types, maybe I should be considering a move south?! Sayraphim got in touch yesterday to tell me about “Totem”, the latest exhibition presented by Omnific Assembly. She says… “Totem is a group exhibition exploring self identity through the resurging craft movement. Artists are invited to create a self portrait doll, not of how they look on the outside, but showing how they feel about themselves or how they secretly see themselves [...]

Felting (or “fulling” as it’s correctly known) is the process of using heat, agitation and water to break down the fibres in your yarn so they bind together to create a solid fabric where the stitches are no longer obvious. It’s a great way to add some extra interest to a project. Felting can be done either by hand or by washing machine (post on that to come in the next couple of weeks), although it’s more time consuming by [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
