Magda Sayeg, founder of Knitta Please, is heading to Sydney with a promise that “There is no way I will leave Sydney without making my presence known.” and she “doesn’t care” if she gets arrested. Edit: [previous text = Of course, the fact that Kings Cross council have organised and given Magda a grant to spread her knitted goods far and wide making the graffiti less of a f-you to the establishment and instead a chirpy little council funded art [...]

My sister is having her first child sometime in August (depending on his schedule and her diabetes!) so I have been hard at work putting together a package to send to her after the bub is born. A collection of all the bits and pieces that I’ve found essential in my experience as a mum. Looking around there are some amazing tutorials and patterns floating around on the Internet, so I thought I’d share my favourite finds with you! Burp Cloths! [...]

I first made one of these for my friend Morgan, it was my second ever sewing project and I just hope and pray that she never shows it to me ever again as there was some dodgy sewing going on there! I guess we all have to start somewhere, this one is slightly more complex than my original one, but the finished look is beautiful, and a great way to store your needles. The size also makes it perfect for [...]

Recently I’ve been working from “Mr Funky’s Super Crochet Wonderful” by Narumi Ogawa. I love Amigurumi and Japanese crochet patterns in general, and this little guy begged me to be made when I flicked through the book. Pattern: Mr Funky’s Pretty Little Kitty from Super Crochet Wonderful, the pattern is also available at Narumi Ogawa’s Etsy shop, although I feel that I should say that I find it very odd that she’s selling the “Spunky Funky Monkey” and “Pretty Little [...]

Ed’s Note: Please welcome Charm to CraftBlog, our Victorian crafter extraordinare, this post will hopefully be the first of many here! When I was a kid my grandma would always have a box of yarn and a bag of needles sitting beside the sofa so it was only natural that I (being a very inquisitive child) would want to learn to knit! She spent hours showing me how to cast on, knit/purl, drop stitches (well maybe I learnt that one [...]

Crochet on tea towels is (in my opinion) a very Aussie tradition, my mum thinks it’s hilarious that I’ve resorted to crocheting on tea towels and insists that this alone should be enough for Mr Rudd to grant me citizenship. I’m not quite convinced on this one, but I do love that something so simple can make an otherwise cheapy pair of teatowels look so much cuter. If you’re experienced at crochet this is a very quick project to throw [...]

Ahh, more adventures in felting/fulling on CraftBlog! Previously I wrote about how to hand felt your projects, now I’ll speak about the far less manual version of just chucking it in the washing machine aka “time to ignore everything the laundry label tells you to do”! Machine felting works great for larger pieces, you lose the control that you have with hand felting, but it also allows you to sit down and have a cup of tea whilst your washing [...]

Felting (or “fulling” as it’s correctly known) is the process of using heat, agitation and water to break down the fibres in your yarn so they bind together to create a solid fabric where the stitches are no longer obvious. It’s a great way to add some extra interest to a project. Felting can be done either by hand or by washing machine (post on that to come in the next couple of weeks), although it’s more time consuming by [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
