Today is my birthday, not that you’d know peeking in at my home, everybody is still asleep and I’m busy writing out meal plans and baking my own cake. A birthday just isn’t a birthday without cake, and for my birthday, instead of the usual icing covered Disney themed cakes I normally churn out for the boys’ birthdays I thought something simple would be the way to go, and knew exactly what I wanted. My Dad (baker and chef extraordinaire) [...]

I’ve missed a few weeks of WIC with all the dramas lately, I’m hoping I can go back and work out what I’ve missed and backdate some posts, I love having a little weekly record of what I’ve made each week. Mainly I’ve been focusing on Declan and Connor’s string quilts this week. The top for Connor’s is now finished and I’ll quilt it tonight. I went to Spotlight today and couldn’t find any flannelette I liked enough to use [...]

Please welcome Christie Burnett of Childhood 101 to CraftBlog! In preparation for her daughter’s second birthday, Christie made an easy three point felt pirate hat and kindly shared the tutorial with us.  And in the tradition of all great pirates, this hat is unique… it’s pink! What you’ll need About 1/2 metre felt (of course, it depends on the size of the head you are making it for!) Sewing machine or needle and thread for hand sewing Decorative touches – contrasting [...]

Rachel from Melbourne asks: My gran gave me a couple of jelly rolls for Christmas and I’m a bit stumped on whether I’m supposed to pre-wash them or not? (or even if i’m able to).  To wash or not to wash? I’ve confessed before that I am not a washer, the quilting world is pretty much divided when it comes to washing yardage, and I sit firmly on the side of no. Unwashed fabric has stiffening agents that I find [...]

Christmas is that time of the year where I firmly subscribe to the “more is more” theory. You can never have enough glitter, sparkles and fake snow as far as I’m concerned, but I lean far more towards fresh bright colours than the traditional reds and greens, and with this in mind I’ve created a round up of my favourite tutorials for modern Christmas decorations. All of them are fairly low cost and are easy enough that you can whip [...]

Morning All, It’s Dan. I’m Fern’s other half and I’m the one responsible for keeping the site up and running so Fern can supply you with your daily fix of crafty goodness. My apologies for this morning’s technical issues with no posts appearing on CraftBlog’s front page.  Something went astray with WordPress. It’s been fixed now and everything should be OK. In other sad news after a number of years of faithful service, Fern’s laptop has left us and gone [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
