I always enjoy finding new uses for tshirts, so I LOVE this easy tutorial from SewLikeMyMom, with instructions on turning an oversized tshirt into a comfy skirt, just perfect for the summer that is fast approaching. This may even be the last boot up the bum I finally need to try my hand at shirring. See the full tutorial here.

Jodie of Vintage Ric Rac posted this very useful tutorial on how she makes her circles so neat. All it takes is a little extra fabric, and it definitely saves all the hassle of needle turn. This is also the same method I use to turn the inside of any appliqued letters, I love the neat edges it gives. See the full tutorial here.

Are your eggs a little bashful when they’re baring all on your breakfast table early in the morning? Never fear, LucyKate of LucyKateCrafts.co.uk has the answer to all your troubles, stitch up this super cute owl egg cosy and never suffer from embarrassed chilly eggs again. Although sometimes it feels like it, I’m sure I’m not the only one with a feral kid who will flat out not behave in a restaurant, we take along colouring pencils, books and cars and that will amuse him for the first five minutes, but after that he’s kicking his little brother’s chair and moaning about how hungry he is. I’m hoping this naughts and crosses board from Julie of Jaybird quilts can cure some of that boredom, or maybe [...]

I am a quilter. My mother is a dress maker. Not to say we’re exclusive or anything, we both dabble a little, I make the occasional pair of pyjamas for my boys, she likes to buy jelly rolls and ponder what she’d do with them if she was actually inclined to make quilts – generally she just unrolls them and looks at the all of the colours, picks her favourites, rearranges them and then packs them away again, something I’m [...]

Crystal of Little Bit Funky posted this fabulous “quilt” tutorial over the weekend, with just a little bit of batting and some squares of fabric you can turn a shop bought comforter into your own personalised, very easy to make, quilt. This is great for an instant gratification project, it can be finished in a couple of hours and is perfect for beginner sewers looking to branch out into quilting. If you have the time (and inclination!) you could even [...]

Spring is on its way up here on the mid north coast, and days of garden picnics are beckoning (at least for you lucky folks who have more than a square of pavers to call your garden – boo ), so what could make these sunny days even better? A TeePee! Christie Burnett of Childhood 101 has developed an awesome PDF pattern with simple instructions to make your own TeePee. It provides for so many great imaginative play possibilities – [...]

Backdated post to make up for how slack I’ve been, sorry to anyone on the RSS feed! I’m all about quilts this week. This is Emma, I’ve always been terrible at naming my quilts so I figured I need to come up with a standard system for them, I figure each one of them is almost like a child to me, so I wanted to give them proper names and then developed a way to select the names. I explained [...]

Easter is coming, which means we all have an excuse to make bunny plushies to stuff into Easter baskets. Below are some of my favourite bunny patterns and tutorials for you to sew up. Wabbit by Yoonie – Great twist on the more traditional rabbits you’d find in Easter hampers, I can really see this softie becoming my son’s favourite very quickly. Chibi Bunny by My Little Mochi – Awesome details with the embroidery, and I really like the touch [...]

I quilted and bound Connor’s red string quilt a few days ago. Echo stitching around the block seams the same as his brother’s version and bound in the same fabric. I ended up using some flannelette from my stash, a bright blue with skulls and crossbones on it. The flannelette I backed it with wasn’t pre-washed and shrunk more than I had intended, making it really crinkley on the front. I don’t mind though, this quilt is going to get [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
