My gobsmackingly awesome niece is due to turn eighteen next month and I’ve been wondering what to gift her for a while. I know I wanted to make her something, but I was unsure exactly what I could do. My boys were sitting down watching Sleeping Beauty, I was half listening as the fairy godmothers were blessing Aurora when it suddenly clicked, my niece needs to begin her adult life with a Fairy Godmother, and that’s exactly what I made [...]

My four year old has recently developed a love of writing, it’s been awesome watching his little scribbles slowly turn themselves into recognisable words (along with constant requests of “How do you spell….?”) and he’s absolutely enamoured with the idea of writing letter and emails to everyone he knows. We printed out this letter writing kit from Kate at Picklebums this morning and have had a lovely time writing letters to everyone we know, even my 3 year old got [...]

Seventeen year old Shealynn is far more constructive than I was at her age, and instead of being the wild child that I was, is spending her free time created beautiful art work and tutorials and sharing them with the Internet. Way to go Shealynn! She recently shared this lovely tutorial for creating a beautiful clock out of an old book, including details on how to fit the mechanism into the pages, create the cleanest cuts and even alter the [...]

Jessica from How About Orange has created another awesome tutorial, this time how to create your own mini-boxes from paint chips. She offers a pattern for both the box and lid plus detailed instructions on how to put them together. They’re the perfect size for storing paper clips or pins, or even better using as cute little boxes – how great would they be as a ring box?! See the full how-to here.

Kate from MiniEco shows us how to create this very cute space invader paper weaving, in both rainbow and a very neon green. I love how striking it looks against the white. I don’t think I could waste this one on a gift topper though! I love the thought of creating all four designs that Katy has made, framing them in some op-shop frames spray painted bright colours and hanging them in a group somewhere in the house – I [...]

I KNOW we’re not the only family obsessed with Rovio’s Angry Birds, even my two year old loves it (and has advanced further than me, which is disturbing in so many different ways) so I thought I’d share these kick ass Angry Bird printable toys from Little Plastic Man that you can download, print and make up yourself. Use them to decorate your cube or desk, or initiate war fare with an over-confident two year old, the choice is yours! [...]

Stella from The Lovely Residence posted a tutorial to make a funky modern star decoration that would be perfect for Christmas (too soon to start thinking about Christmas?), and a nice change from using a wreath – just make sure you put it undercover so it doesn’t get wet! All it takes in six pieces of scrapbooking paper and some cuts in just the right spots. See the full tutorial here.

The label part that is… not the basket part, although ooo, basket weaving, that could be something else I could buy all the supplies for so they could sit in my craft room with the promise of “one day…”. I love labels, our label maker is named Leroy and lives permanently on my fridge, ready for me to label anything with a moments notice. Leory’s labels look like this: Practical? yes! Cute? No. Sarah’s labels look like this: Practical? Yes! [...]

I love this pencil case idea for stashing a few pens into a folder when you’re on the go (or, in my case, to stop my husband from nicking my pens and never returning them ) All this takes is some contact, scrapbooking paper and a little patience. See the full tutorial here.

A friend and I were talking about nappy cakes, and how, as nice as they are, they’re pretty pricey once you’ve costed all those nappies for the tiers, some lotions, maybe some socks or face-washers and a toy to put on top it can add up. I love this simplified idea from Erin of Crafts & Sutch, of just making a nappy wreath for a baby shower with the initial of the babe, or if bub is yet unamed maybe [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
