Jess from How About Orange created this very chic cushion using painter’s tape to block of sections of her fabric and then painting over the gaps with fabric paint and then sewing the finished design into a simple envelope cushion. I love the effect of the torn edges, my mind is already racing on what other projects I could use this technique in. See the full tutorial here.

I always enjoy finding new uses for tshirts, so I LOVE this easy tutorial from SewLikeMyMom, with instructions on turning an oversized tshirt into a comfy skirt, just perfect for the summer that is fast approaching. This may even be the last boot up the bum I finally need to try my hand at shirring. See the full tutorial here.

Tiny little socks and underwear are the bane of my laundry life. They go out on the line, some how vanish, or if they do manage to come in they end up piled up in laundry, far away from their partner and never to be seen again. When I use the dryer is even worse, I think I’ve had socks being dried for months on end because they’re so small I don’t collect them with the rest of the clothes [...]

I am a renter. I think I’ll die a renter. A combination of ridiculous house prices and incurable indecision (a 30 year mortgage combined with my fickle nature would likely lead to a melt down of epic proportions) have kept us in the rental market… and that’s not even mentioning the whole city/country mouse my husband and I have going on, I often think that to keep both of us happy we’d have to buy two completely different homes, but [...]

Digital photography is an awesome thing, I have gig upon gig of photos stored in hard drives and dead laptops, the not so awesome thing is that I am completely crap at printing off any photos. I printed my first photos this Christmas as a gift to my mother in law, I have no photos of the boys on display around my house, if it wasn’t for the obstacle course of toys that resides in my front room you wouldn’t [...]

I’m not a girly girl, I don’t “squee” very often, but I have to admit I let out a sound probably usually only reserved for images of puppies and ducklings when I saw these awesome garden markers. Take a trip to the opshop and pick up some old cutlery, hammer the hell out of it and then stamp the name of your plants and herbs into it using a letter stamping kit. I love the finished look, it looks like [...]

This is less tutorial (it’s as simple as drawing on a plate) and more review, but I recently discovered these porcelain pens in Spotlight and I am completely in love. You Will Need One Porcelain pen – they’re made by “Pebeo” and I found them in my local Spotlight in the craft section with the regular ink pens, they had them in thick and thin, I’m using the thicker version (150). I Also have it on good authority that Lincraft [...]

Tiffany Bird of Simply Modern Mom recently wrote about making over her master bedroom on a budget. The transformation was amazing, turning a fairly standard mismatched bedroom into a sanctuary within her home. One of the things that stood out for me were the tree canvases above the dresser, like most artwork they’re simple but very effective. Tiffany has posted a quick tutorial explaining how you can achieve the same look at her blog, all it takes is some canvas, [...]

Design*Sponge featured a tutorial for this excellent calendar/pen cup as part of their DIY Wednesdays series. For just a couple of dollars spent on card you can have a perpetual calendar to keep on your desk – cute and practical! See the full tutorial and download the files to print here.

The team at Martha Stewart Crafts have another great tutorial up, this time, how to make very shabby chic candles from op-shop tea cups – although I think I’m being stiffed at my local op-shops, the only thing I ever seem to find is promotional mugs or weird beer themed stuff – never the dainty little chic tea cups, maybe I need to expand my search outside of Parramatta! My firefighter father in law will also demand that I need [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
