Tiffany Bird of Simply Modern Mom recently wrote about making over her master bedroom on a budget. The transformation was amazing, turning a fairly standard mismatched bedroom into a sanctuary within her home. One of the things that stood out for me were the tree canvases above the dresser, like most artwork they’re simple but very effective. Tiffany has posted a quick tutorial explaining how you can achieve the same look at her blog, all it takes is some canvas, [...]

My resolution this coming year is to keep up a daily journal of sketches and thoughts for the entire year. Partly so that I can look back and remember exactly what I was doing in 2010, and also as a form of art therapy for depression and some other issues I’m having. I loved this journal, but didn’t want to drop $30 on it, so instead I picked up a Derwent Visual Art Diary for $3 and decorated the front [...]

Less than a day before the “Casting Off Ceremony” vandals have destroyed the installation piece of knitting covering the side of an entire bridge in Melbourne’s west. From the ABC News: The festival’s director, Karen Hadfield, says the giant knitting was hacked down and is now hanging from the bridge. “We’ve had a few knitters down and there’s been a few tears from them because they’ve really put their heart and souls into it,” she said. “We were going to [...]

Anyone vaguely familiar with Ikea will probably be familiar with the KLIPPAN sofa, the absolute budget 2.5 seater that sells for $279 at the store. To celebrate 30 years of KLIPPAN Ikea has enlisted 30 Australian artists to design new slip covers for the sofa. The resulting pieces, featuring everything from industrial plastic meshing to granny square blankets found in op-shops, will be auctioned off with the proceeds going towards the Victorian Bushfire relief effort. Check out all of the [...]

I’ve been listening to the buzz on twitter about this show for a few days now, and only this morning did I get a chance to check it out. The work is absolutely wonderful, and for a movie buff like myself it’s a dream. The show features artwork inspired by cult movie classics such as The Big Lebowski, Pulp Fiction, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and many more. Everything from traditional family portraits of “The Torrences” from The Shining [...]

I’ve just stumbled onto the site and work of Barcelona based Artist, Alex Noriega, via SwissMiss, and I’m fairly certain I made an audible “squee”. Beautiful drawings, ranging from simple comic strips to highly detailed inked landscapes. I love this “If I Was A Bunny” print. You can see more of Alex’s work at his blog, Alex Noriega’s Sketchbook.

A project I started today, thinking it would only take me one nap to get done, already put about two hours into it and it’s nowhere near resembling what I eventually hope it to be. There is sewing, gluing and a LOT more colouring to be done before it even nears completion, but the bright colours make me happy just looking at them, and with the plans I have in mind it should be awesome. NB: Is anyone else obsessed [...]

If you want everyone to get a little bit of handmade from you for Christmas, but don’t have the time to make up 30 different gifts, this is a great way to send a little bit of homemade festive cheer to everyone. They’re very quick and simple to make up, and look like they too far longer than they actually did, exactly what you need when you’ve got a list of handmade gifts about a mile long to make up! [...]

I love the vintage look of Lomography, and yet can’t bring myself to fork out money, for a camera (or “another toy” as my husband would refer to it!)  just because it takes some interesting looking pictures, particularly considering it took me almost two years to get the films printed from my wedding – who knows how long a roll of lomo film would have to wait! Lomographs are characterised by their grainy appearance, over saturated colours and funky exposures. [...]

This afternoon during the boys’ nap time I sat myself down with my new carving set and a pack of rubbers to carve my first ever stamps following Two Cheese Please’s stamp tutorial… a heart, it came out so so, a mushroom, pretty good if I do say so myself, so I was feeling bold enough to try and do my name… and that’s when it all went downhill! I’ve had my fair share of crafting brainfarts, switching between metric [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
