I am a quilter.
My mother is a dress maker.
Not to say we’re exclusive or anything, we both dabble a little, I make the occasional pair of pyjamas for my boys, she likes to buy jelly rolls and ponder what she’d do with them if she was actually inclined to make quilts – generally she just unrolls them and looks at the all of the colours, picks her favourites, rearranges them and then packs them away again, something I’m sure we all can relate to!
Which is why I LOVE this quilt from Allie of AllieMakes, guest posted on Momma’s Kinda Crafty. If you were to merge my mother and myself into one piece, it would be this quilt (although we’d argue over the colours, I love lime green, my Mum on the other hand isn’t so keen!), just as Allie says, it is a dressmaker’s quilt for certain, featuring pintucks, lace and rouching, everything you’d find on an elaborate dress, except now on a quilt. The details give the quilt such an amazing texture, I just want to touch it!
Do you tend to stick to one area of sewing, or even craft? Or do you dabble? I think I could probably get a little more into making clothes if I had a daughter, but I find the pattern options for boys are so limited. It also doesn’t help that the boys are rough as guts, I’d probably be upset to see clothes I’d made stained with mud and baked beans!

What a beautiful quilt! I’m itching to learn how to quilt but at the moment I dabble in a few other crafts – sewing, crochet, knitting, scrapbooking and cooking (is that a craft..probably not
). Next on my list is quilting along with dry felting…fun, fun, fun!

I am a dabbler. In fact, I just started to dabble in quilting!
Oh, and you’re so right. There are not nearly as cool of clothes to make for boys as girls. Come to think of it, there aren’t as cute of clothes for boys TO BUY as girls either.

This is such an interesting quilt! I’ve been quilting now for many years, but started sewing with clothes. In between quilts, I’ll make a dress for my daughter or shorts. You’re right, there aren’t many patterns for boys. Altho, I did make some baby clothes for my son, but he’s 13 now, so it’s jeans and tshirts. I craft with my girl scout troop and that’s about the extent of other kinds of crafting.
