I love the look of covered buttons, but I don’t use them often enough to really justify buying a button covering tool. This is how I cover my buttons, it takes a little more time that the tool, but if you’re only doing them occasionally it saves you spending money on another crafting gadget. You’ll Need: Shank buttons in your chosen size (mine were from a button tin my Mum picked up for me from a garage sale, she’s magic [...]

I’ve missed a few weeks of WIC with all the dramas lately, I’m hoping I can go back and work out what I’ve missed and backdate some posts, I love having a little weekly record of what I’ve made each week. Mainly I’ve been focusing on Declan and Connor’s string quilts this week. The top for Connor’s is now finished and I’ll quilt it tonight. I went to Spotlight today and couldn’t find any flannelette I liked enough to use [...]

Remember my string block tutorial*? I started that quilt in may of 2008, Declan was just over a year old and I had barely finished the top when he swiped it off me, dubbed it “The Patchwork Blanket” and never gave it back. That poor quilt top has been abused beyond measure since then. It gets dragged around the house, drinks have been spilled on it, it even got dragged through the mud at a picnic about six  months ago. [...]

I’ve had this blog open in a tab for about two days now, just making my way through the archives when I get a moment (and a cup of tea)and taking in all the pretty – In Color Order has everything I love in a blog, beautiful photography, wonderful creations and a cute animals. I finally took the plunge yesterday during the boys’ naps and did the final applique on Robyn’s quilt. It’s not perfect, but any bedding I would have made her wouldn’t have been perfect either, so it’s fitting. I ended up changing my mind on the pink I’d chosen for the bird’s breast and instead used some shot silk from a grab bag at a car boot that my mum picked up for me ages ago. It’s beautiful, bright pink from [...]

I’m not a girly girl, I don’t “squee” very often, but I have to admit I let out a sound probably usually only reserved for images of puppies and ducklings when I saw these awesome garden markers. Take a trip to the opshop and pick up some old cutlery, hammer the hell out of it and then stamp the name of your plants and herbs into it using a letter stamping kit. I love the finished look, it looks like [...]

I used to be fearless. I was once a headstrong eighteen year old at one stage who jumped on a plane alone and announced I was going to make my own life in Australia, on the opposite side of the world from my friends, family and everything I knew. At some point over the last six years I lost a lot of that confidence, I’ve gained some back as I’ve had the kids, and oddly enough, with all of the [...]

In the last few weeks of pregnancy I finally decided to a theme for the cot set I planned on making for our third babe. Black and white prints from Northcott mixed in with tone on tone blue and orange prints if it was a boy, and a tiny pink leopard print if I ended up delivering a girl. I had both options laid out on my sewing desk, ready for me to get stuck into when I returned from [...]

Mr P. of awe inspiring food blog, Delicious Delicious Delicious posted these ridiculously cute spoons, inspired by Welsh Love Spoons, they are simply melted chocolate with cake decorating goodies arranged on top. I could see these going down fabulously at a party, or even as favours (or bonbonnieres where I’m from, but that just gets me crazy looks over here!) for a wedding – glam them up a bit by searching your local op-shops to find pretty spoons – my [...]

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
