I make a lot of little bits and pieces that don’t tend to make it on to the blog, I’m not entirely sure why, particularly as some of my quickest and simplest tutorials (The Notebook Cover Tutorial and The Pincushion Tutorial) end up being the most popular, but this year I intend to bring an end to my unsung crafts that are hiding away and make a weekly post talking about what I’ve been creating over the week.

Selvedge Camera Strap

I went into my craft roomgarage to make a camera case for my Christmas present and couldn’t find the right fabric to co-ordinate with the couple of zips I had to hand (OH NOES!) so instead I ended up putting that off for another day and instead making a wrist-strap out of selvedge left over from the selvedge needlebook tutorial. I made it a little tight so it’s not the easiest thing to get on over my hand, but on a positive note, it definitely isn’t going to slip off!

Ribbon Retreat Stash

I didn’t actually create these, unless you count my super ghetto cereal box ribbon cards, and the toddler foot in the background – I take full responsibility for making that one, but it took me two bloody hours to sort them all out so I’m going to include them here. This was my stash from a Ribbon Retreat order last week, they had Grab Bags for 70% off knocking them down to $4.50 each so I ordered three! I ended up with 1.5lbs of ribbon, which worked out to just over 100 yards, which is a bargain even with the overseas shipping. I’m not really one for using ribbon so I’ve never built up much of a stash, this was a really good way for me to build up an instant stash without it costing a bomb and giving me a wide range of ribbon to work with. There are a few I’m not keen on in there, but for every baby pink ballet slipper theme there was a fuchsia zebra print to make up for it twice over!

There were only a couple of pieces shorter than a yard in all three bags, and postage was also very quick so they come highly recommended from me.

And this morning whilst Connor and Declan napped I dyed some yarn, the first skein came out beautifully, an awesome pink/orange/yellow self striping yarn. The latter I’m not 100% sure on, but I’ll reserve judgment until it’s balled up, I was aiming for a blue/green mottled peacock look, instead it came out more sea witch.

These are heading for a new home south of the border with a new crocheter so I’ll save photos of the entire skein for after she’s received them so I don’t spoil the surprise.

That’s about it for this week, although I have been putting some of my creative energies into my new website, Alternabub, it’s not quite as pretty to look at as ribbon and yarn, but check it out if you’re an Aussie parent who walks on the wild side.

What have you been creating this week?

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
