We moved about six months ago into a much smaller house, meaning I had to give up my dedicated craft room, six months working on the dining room table was enough for me, and now that we’ve decided to stay here a little longer than intended, it’s time to convert part of the garage into my craft space!

Flickr is such an amazing source of inspiration for me, browsing around I found some wonderful rooms, spaces and even cupboards that people are creating from.

Click on the pictures to go to Flickr to see more photos from the rooms or the stories behind them.

I love white in craft rooms, it makes all the colours that you’re creating with pop beautifully.

EVERY craft room needs a hammock. Fact.

I wish I had this kind of space to work with, unfortunately we also have to fit a car into our garage. I love the practicality of this space, it looks so easy to work in, unfortunately I can only dream of being this neat and organised!

Proof that your creative space doesn’t necessarily have to be an entire room, this is a beautiful example of how to squeeze your work area into a cupboard or alcove.

This is probably the closest to how my studio tends to end up. Organised, but not minimalist by any stretch of the imagination! I love the look of using one colour to run through everything, but not being completely dominant.

I think the running theme in all these spaces is the combination of the practical with the pretty, a less than practical craft room won’t help in the creative process in the slightest, and one highly practical yet lacking in creative inspiration would drive me to distraction I think.

What are your tips for creating the perfect space, any storage items you couldn’t be without?

Great post! I love looking at other people’s craft spaces. Soon enough when I buy a house I’ll be making sure that I have my own dedicated craft room, and these photos help give me some inspiration!

I have to have this repurposed chip rack! You can see it here
http://ubercrafter.blogspot.com/2009/09/lazy-crafter.html it takes up very little floor space and spins!! It is hands down my favorite craft room organizer. PS: My craft room is NEVER clean.

I love my bookshelf. You can only put one depth of fabric in so if you fold your material neatly you can see everything you have. Much better than wardrobe shelves. Also shelving above my sewing machine allows everything to be easily accessible. And of cours a table for cutting only and the ironing board right next to the sewing machine. Is that enough? LOL I don’t have a hammock in my sewing room but a bed that is half slipped under the cutting table is nearly as good. Cherrie

Thanks for the link. All the spaces are beautiful and inspiring! I think all creative people need a space of their own, be it a closet, garage, nook, room, or workshop.

Hi, I'm FernHi, I'm Fern and CraftBlog is my online home. I live in NSW with my husband and three sons, and spend every moment of my free time with my head buried in some form of creativity. In fact, I've never met a craft I didn't like, although I think I've tried a fair few that probably weren't too keen on me. Want to know more?
