If you’ve been keeping up with the last few days you would have seen an obvious trend on the CB posts, I’ve been celebrating the upcoming release of the Where The Wild Things Are Movie (due out 3rd December in Australia) with a collection of some of my favourite crafts, foods and artworks from around the Internet that have been inspired by Maurice Sendak’s book.

Take a look back at the WTWTA posts:
- Where The Wild Things Are Crafts
- Where The Wild Things Are Inspired Food
- Etsy Inspired By Where The Wild Things Are
For those not familiar with the story, Where The Wild Things Are follows the tale of Max, who is so naughty his mother refers to him as a Wild Thing and he’s sent to bed without his supper. From his imagination grows the land of the Wild Things, with beautifully illustrated trees and landscapes. The Wild Things are fearsome-looking monsters, but Max conquers them “by staring into their yellow eyes without blinking once”, and he is made “the King of all Wild Things”. Homesickness overwhelms him and so he returns home to find his supper still hot and waiting for him.
In conjunction with The Book Depository, CraftBlog is giving away a copy of the book to one lucky commenter, just leave a comment on this thread telling me your favourite children’s picture book, either that you read as a child or that you now read to your kids and you’re automatically entered into the draw. If you blog about the giveaway let me know in the comments with a link to your post and you will be given an additional entry!
The competition is open worldwide and closes at 5pm (AEDST) on Thursday the 15th. I will announce the winner that evening.
Due to the popularity of the book I’m sure several of you already have it sitting on your bookshelves, if so, just mention that in the comments and instead (if you win!) you’ll receive a copy of another of Maurice Sendak’s beautifully illustrated picture books, Kenny’s Window.
Please be sure to leave a valid address in the email field so that I can contact you if you’re the winner.
Good luck!
Entries and comments are now closed! Thank you to everyone who entered.

I have totally enjoyed your take on WTWTA, and like you can not wait for the movie to come out. We actually do not have a copy of this book, although it is a family favourite-so would love to win a copy!! One of our favourite books is The Waterhole by Graeme Base. The kids enjoy finding all the hidden animals amongst his artwork. Thanks for a chance of winning a giveaway, plus the book depository is the bestest site!!
what a great suggestion. My boys love books we read a minimum of 5 every bedtime .At the moment it is hard to pick their favourite – we have 20 + from library as well as our usual but Where is the Green sheep (was before) and the I spy board book (hmm which is missing now I recall probably under the bed )
I ‘ll blog about it if I can.
Ps I am interested in penguin craft ? do you have any ideas .They love ‘Pingu’ or any penguins at the moment …one more so than his twin.
I’ll RT it too .
We do have as copy of Where the Wild Things Are – it was a great favorite with my older two. My six year old’s current favorite is Don’t Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus! – guaranteed to have him dissolving into giggles every single time. It’s a fun read for parents, too!
Oh man, I don’t know. I remember loving all the Dr. Seuss stuff, and I know I read Where the Wild Things Are as a kid, but I don’t own it. I would have to say Green Eggs & Ham, but only because that’s the only picture book I can remember. My grandma used to tell us stories when we went to bed that she told off the top of her head…so we didn’t read much when we were little.
Thanks for the opportunity!
oh, I loved, loved loved this book as a kid. I bought this book in spanish for my husband to read to my son, but it would be great to also have the english version. i am SO excited for the movie to come. I have been looking at all the fun stuff lsited on etsy too! What a great giveaway!
Right now my 3 year old Wild Man is loving his Cheerios board book. It has large pictures of different animals doing different things with a place to insert a Cheerio to complete the image! It’s pretty cool!
One of my favorites (along with WTWTA) is “Tikki Tikki Tembo”, a Chinese folk tale about a boy with an impossibly long name and the challenges it poses to him when his brother falls down a well. With exquisite illustrations, I’ve only just rediscovered it with my own kids.
I loved reading WTWTA as a child, loved reading it to students as a teacher, and can’t wait for my little boy to be old enough to enjoy it too. I think as a child though my fave was Possum Magic.
I loved any of the Golden Books when I was little and I think my son’s favourite is the Raggedy Anne story. Although he really loves books about trucks and diggers which were never in my collection

At the moment my favourite children’s book is “Alexander’s Outing” by Pamela Allen. The children in my class spent 5 weeks studying it and still keep asking for me to read it. They particulary liked how the characters need to find a way to help Alexander. They loved trying to trick their older classmates into solving the problem of how to get Alexander out of his hole…. They knew the answer….and thought they were a bit clever!!!
At the moment I love reading my boys, ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ by Nick Bland. Love his style of illustrating.
My daughter is loving Fancy Nancy… but you asked me to tell you about my favorite childhood picture book. It was actually a book that was my mom’s…cover torn and pages faded. It was called the four little puppies… Wags Tags Rags and Obediah… i read it to my son Hunter and he loved it too… the puppies are dressed up in clothing and doing chores! raking leaves and baking… black and white photography no drawings.
But I also have very fond memories of where wild things are… i can not wait to see the movie. I have a date with my 14 year old to see it on opening day!

I actually do not have a copy of this story, though I know my son would love it! I think my favorite picture book would have to be The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Hi, I have a copy but my nephew’s don’t and I would be giving it to them. My daughter’s favourite picture book when she was small was “Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam Mcbratney, I think we must of read it every night for years. Wonderful blog by the way.
