CraftBlog is officially one month old! Thank you to the just over 6,000 people we’ve had come here already and take a look around, and an even bigger thanks to everyone who took the time to subscribe to our feed so they could keep on reading, and then an even bigger thank you to everyone who’s written about CB in forums and blogs and recommended us as good reading fodder. The feedback from everyone’s comments and emails has been great, keep it coming!
Tutorials have reigned supreme in the last month, our most popular posts have been…
- Sewing Machine Cover Tutorial
- Fantabulous Pincushion Tutorial
- Appliquéd Ribbon Blanket Tutorial
- T-shirt Into Drawstring Bag Tutorial
Thank you to our lovely authors for writing some awesome posts on a whole range of topics.
July also marked the creation of the CraftBlog Flickr Group, currently only with 49 photos in it, but more are being added everyday! It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on for some inspiration in your projects or finding some beautiful items to buy.
Needle Roll Giveaway
Every month I’m hoping to run a giveaway so we can share the love a bit with our readers, this month up for grabs is the pink and black knitting needle holder from this week’s tutorial. It’s simple to enter, just leave a comment on this post telling us what you’d like to see in the future of CB, more tutorials? more needlework? more kid’s crafts? Anything you can think of that you think might improve the site. There’s no right or wrong answer, every comment will be assigned a number and I’ll be using a random number generator to spit out a winner.
Entry is open worldwide, you must leave a valid email address so I can contact you for your postage details and your comment must be made by midnight on Sunday the 10th of August, Sydney time.
So we wave goodbye to July and look to the future, with plenty of activity coming up on CB, a new author with some tutorials that I’m really excited about, some great new online finds and of course the crafty goodness will continue. Bring on the next month!

I don’t know if the contest is open to international participants, but I for one have love love loved your tutorials. I just got my fabric for the sewing machine cover and I am really excited about getting that completed in the next week or so. I also plan on making the ribbon tag blanket for our new baby due in November, once we find out if its a boy or a girl.
I would say more tutorials. They are so helpful! It would be really great if someone could do a duvet cover tutorial or perhaps an apron/smock tutorial for kids and adults.
Kimbrah (in California)
Kimbrah - don’t worry, entry is open to international participants as well
I absolutely love the tutorials. Keep up the great work!
What a fantastic giveaway….I’m loving the tutorials.
I used the notebook cover tutorial as the basis for a journal that I made this week.
I have to admit, I’m a sucker for tutorials, though I’d have to live to be at least 642 to finish even a fraction of the things I’d *like* to do… I love the “little bit of everything” that this blog offers, and would only suggest more photos! Thanks for a great site and a chance to win a beautiful needle roll.
Ooh wow, what a great idea (The sewing machine cover).. Mine is very daggy!!
I would love to see almost like a shoppers version of a bargain bin, where craft sales/specials are available, particularly online and also preferably Australian..
What about a ‘craft a week/craft a month’ section, where a totally random craft is shown, to promote people who otherwise wouldnt contemplate doing something in particular would start to think about starting ie: simple jewellery, crochet teatowels etc etc?
Love your blog, too
I’m loving the tutorials but you really need a mascot. Plus edible crafts as well - like candy sushi.
I’d LOVE to see more kids crafts. Maybe things like tutorials on felt crafts(felt foods etc), and creative paints and things.
Maybe some knitted and crochet crafts like a modern/cool looking plastic bag holder, or something classic like a toaster/kettle cover would be awesome!
Oooh, and I’d love to see a funky banner at the top.. Anyone into digi-scrapping? It’d be cool if you(or Dan, lol) could make several layouts with different colours etc, where you could choose which you wanted to view the blog in(like a drop-down menu somewhere on the site). Handy for someone like me who prefers darker coloured backgrounds, and it’d be fun to see different colours and layouts!
Tutorials are awesome
I like visuals!
I love the tutorials, I just don’t have enough time in the day/week/month to do all the ones I want. I have a morning to myself this sunday and am planning on making a sewing machine cover, a computer cover and the pincushion. I would love to see kids crafts and definitely more tutorials.
Id like to see some child friendly crafts for ages 2.5 and up, safe paints, playdoughs, papercrafts something to get kids minds really working without the use of the TV!
Wow, what an awesome prize. I’m a bit of a knitter, so the roll would be great because my needles would spend more time there than actually knitting LOL.
I am an “afternoon project” crafter, in that any project I take on has to be completed in an afternoon - so more of that would be AWESOME
I have loved teh tutorials I love finding new things to try. Also would love kids crafts of all ages and my boys are spread out a bit in ages.
Lovely! I’m thrilled to have found your blog…and you are in Australia, too! Simply thrilled!

Oh, you’re new blog is glorious eye candy! I adore looking at all your tutorials - particularly love the ribbon blanket. As a busy Mum who teaches her children via School of the Air I had almost given up on my crafty ways but thanks to you I’ve found my inner quilting nerd again, so a big thankyou to you all!
Loving the blog, thanks Fern and everyone involved.
I’d love to see some tutorials on wool dyeing… there isn’t much out there for dyeing using the microwave. I’m sure someone on NA could volunteer!
Also, a hand embroiderery lesson would be awesome!
love the blog just keep it coming!!! Tutorials are a must see
Thanks for the effort.
Oooohhhh, I just found this website and I am going to bookmark it and share with family and friends. Love tutorials!

I just found this blog and am so excited about all of the tutorials you offer. I would say to keep up with these and offer a wide range of items (which you do already, of course). Keep up the good work!
More tutorial would be so geat!
Hi, I have to agree that tutorials are great. I also like to see finished products of any medium and colour combinations indicative of current trends. Love the blog. Cherrie
I’m loving the pictures of the projects. Some sites are too light on pictures and I don’t know what to expect. So… I guess the only way to make that better is MORE pictures! lol.
Thanks for a great giveaway! My needles are a haystack at the moment. Yes, I should make a needle roll… but this one is so pretty, I hope I win one instead!
I wish I had time this morning to search your blog a bit and answer the question better. But I do love tutorials!
I’m a newer knitter and would love some great tutorials on knitting, I need to be able to see how it is done, like a video of it. Even though I read well, and can apply things, it is usually my way of learning, knitting has me baffled and I couldn’t do it with a book, lol.
Crafts that are made for outdoors.

i love this site.. lots of ideas and how-to’s! i bookmarked it!!
I love tutorials. I have learned to sew by using the tutorials that are out there on the web. For me being a beginner sewer I like tutorials with lots of pictures. If I can see what you are doing I can match it but if it is being explained with no pictures I move onto another tutorial that has pictures. I am so glad I found your site. I will be back to check out all the great information you have on here.
Cheers Kyla
I love the tutorials, too, am may actually get round to making some (eventually) one day!

I love tutorials, especially for the sewing/patchwork items because I haven’t done much of that stuff so I need help thinking it through.
I’m a cross-stitcher and counted-thread stitcher, both of those crafts seem to be dieing out and I’d love to see more enthusiasm about them in the craft world.
Thanks for the opportunity to enter the giveaway!
More kid-friendly crafts seems to be what I’m looking for the most. That or kid-geared items that I can make for the kids. Thanks for the neat contest!
I have really been wanting one of these.
I love to learn about crafts that can be used to help you upcycle. I’m very much in to eco-friendly living so those are always helpful!

I agree with many others. I just can’t get enough of tutorials.

Tutes on how to use vintage tablecloths and vintage doilys and placemats and turn them into wearable items!! Like on girls dresses, or bags, or skirts.
Thanks and congrats on one month!! Great site.
Hi - I just stumbled across your blog today through Sew, Mama, Sew. I have just begun learning to knit and to sew so I was thrilled to find your blog with great tutorials and for a chance to win the knitting needle holder. I haven’t looked around your site yet so this may already be here but I need to start with a simple project like possibly a pillow cover.
I still consider myself to be a beginner even though I’ve been doing this for over a year so more things geared towards beginners would be great! Thanks!
