Craft Room Organisation

I currently have an ongoing project of organising my sewing room, it’s slow progress, very slow progress. I can’t do it whilst my son is awake as he can destroy things faster than I can tidy them, and I can’t do it whilst he’s asleep as a butterfly flapping its wings seems to wake him up, let alone me crashing and banging in the room next door to his. It also doesn’t help that everytime I make something new I seem to undo all of my work so far!

I have been following Lisa of The Domestic Diva’s craft room challenge down to the letter, and, in my opinion, there’s not a better guide for organising your sewing room out there. She’s also made me aware of so many excellent storage tools that I would have never heard of before - I found a bobbin storage ring at Spotlight for $5 and now wouldn’t be without it.

Tami of Lemon Tree Tales has an excellent post on how to make your space work for you, looking at the ergonomics behind setting up your space to reduce back pain and sore muscles. Previously this didn’t affect me much, but as I’ve moved to bigger quilts it’s something I’m having to pay attention to a lot more.

Karen Booy also writes on organising your work space, there’s a great deal of common sense here - “put things away when you’re done”, but it’s nice to have a list that breaks down what seems like a daunting task into a few simple rules.

What tips do you have for keeping your workspace tidy and organised? Is there any storage tool you couldn’t do without?
